With Turkey eating season upon us, I shall share the facts of Wishing Upon a Wish Bone

Contrary to popular belief, you do not need to win a contest

or even break the bone to benefit from the WiSHing

capabilities of a WiSHing Bone.  

 

In many cultures, birds like chickens, turkey and geese were considered sacred.  They were thought to have the power to predict the future. 

 

When it was time to eat the bird, the WiSH Bone would be dried in the sun for a few days then placed near or tied to the person, place or thing

that needed the WiSH.

 

When the WiSHer would make the WiSH they would rub the top of the bone, which is the thickest, strongest part.

 

Many WiSHes were granted true with the WiSH Bones and thus they became an item that was highly desired.  This caused battles to see who would get the WiSH Bone.  Since the top part was the part where the WiSHer would rub, it was the part most desired.  Therefore when the time came to see who got the WiSH Bone the battle would begin.

 

Each hopeful WiSHer would gently take one side of the WiSH Bone, make a silent WiSH and pull.   Whomever got the thick part at the top was the winner of the WiSH Bone.

 

Side Note: Sadly, many WiSH Bone Winners would not follow through with proper WiSHing Techniques since they felt they already won and thus the WiSHes would often go ungranted.
